Wood With Words are also environmentally-conscious, using 100% plastic-free packaging. We caught up with Wood With Words owner and creator Joni to hear more of her story.
Hi Joni, tell us a bit about yourself and Wood With Words.
Hello there, I'm Joni - designer and founder of Wood With Words, a brand of Australian-made earrings and accessories. I started my business in 2020 with just 4 designs, and today we have a variety of themed collections and 100+ earring designs sold both online and through our stockist community.
All our wooden and acrylic earring designs originate from my sketches before they are laser cut by machine, then finished by hand. Some of my most intricate designs can have up to 22 separate components that require colour planning, careful assembly and gluing, making each pair truly unique and handmade for the wearer. I use only high quality surgical stainless steel backing components for comfortable all-day wear.
In late 2022, I moved my business out of home, and now love coming to work every day at my warehouse studio in Vermont. We can finally offer click and collect now too!
What are you passionate about?
As a mother of two girls, I’m passionate about being a positive female role model to them. I have been a creative person all my life and continue to find ways to fill my own bucket through my work while navigating motherhood and growing alongside them.
What does ethical consumerism mean to you?
Ethical consumerism is purchasing something that is well made and designed to last, as opposed to trendy, single-use (for one special occasion) and designed with a short lifespan.
Describe your perfect day!
My perfect day is any day I’m on holidays with my husband and children, whether it’s at the beach or poolside. If I’m on my own, it would be a two-hour long massage, followed by a slow lunch and an afternoon nap!
